Internal Assessment

Introduction

After many years of teaching the IB I have become rather formulaic about the way I do internal assessment and have come up with a checklist for each criteria and a standard format for the report. These pages will take you through each aspect of each criteria so that you will know what is required to gain top marks.

Do you have to assess all the criteria?

You don't have to assess all the criteria in one report but you can if you want (it saves time when compiling the sample) I wouldn't recommend it though because it is often quite difficult to award a complete score for data processing if the student doesn't plot a straight line graph. For assessment of data collection processing and presentation I like to use more straightforward practicals where the students are plotting graphs whose gradient will give specific known quantities (e.g. specific heat capacity of water). Don't forget that you don't have to assess all the practicals on the 4PSOW.Amir
