The SMART Board
The SMART Board is one of a number of interactive whiteboards available on the market today. One of the biggest challenges to a physics teacher has been to represent 3 dimensional things that change with time on a 2 Dimensional chalk board. With a data projector it is now possible to use computer simulations to help students to visualise these phenomena much more easily. The problem with using the data projector is that the teacher is sidelined, standing by the computer out of the line of the projector is not where we would prefer to be. Another problem is that if we are continually switching from the chalk board to the projection screen we loose continuity in our presentations. The SMART board solves these problems and adds a whole bunch of new possibilities for the teacher. When operating simulations from the board the teacher is always in between the information and the students. If you use a SMART board for all your note writing then it is easy to open simulations or search the internet whenever you want to. Notes can be saved in PDF form after each lesson so students who missed a lesson can catch up.
