Practical 14 Vibration of a stretched String
Introduction
In this practical the vibration of a sonometer wire is analysed using fft software incorporated in the Data Studio package from Pasco. Students are given the basic theory but have to decide which variables they will use to plot a graph enabling them to find the mass per unit length of the wire. Since the aim of the experiment is to find a known value it is possible for students to fulfill all the requirements of the DCP and CE assessment criteria.
Assessment
This practical can be used to assess DCP and CE, students should follow the same procedure as used on all the practicals up to this point in the programme. Details of the actual requirements can not be given here as it would give to much information to my students and I wouldn't be able to use this practical for assessment.
