IKEA Planning Addition Store In West Australia

Ikea is the popular furniture giant based in Scandinavia. It has many branches all over the world but it is different from a school furniture supplier which is dedicated in making ergonomic furniture for the use of the students. While it already has a store located in West Australia, there are reports that the company is scouting for a second site located in the southern suburbs where they can build another IKEA store.

The people in West Australia know that the furniture giant is already asking for available sites for the past few months but they were not able to secure a lease agreement yet. According to one of the speculations, the company might have been eyeing Jandakot because it is currently housing other large stores in the area that are making furniture and home wares.

Despite the rumours, IKEA said that they are not planning to open up an additional store in Western Australia. From their official statement, the company said that they are open to exploring opportunities when it comes to expansion in order to make the brand more accessible yet as of the moment they are not planning to build a second store within Western Australia.

One of the media outlets in the area reported that IKEA is already preparing to launch a store in Midland which is the same site that houses Bunnings situated in the Great Eastern Highway. Bunnings lease will not expire until the end of 2020 before it moves to its new location in an old sale yards also in Midland.

The locals know that IKEA might not be eyeing Midland because it is not a populated area and the location might not be feasible for a store. If IKEA is to build another store, it will most probably be in a location within a metropolitan area. Just like in the case of school furniture supplier, the most strategic location should be accessible and close to an area with large number of residents. Jan Gardberg who is IKEA’s leader in Australia has previously expressed his desire to double the sales of the company in Australia in the next ten years.
