PTT To Cut Its Logistics Costs By Investing On Railway Project

One of the most ideal ways for a family to enjoy their Thailand holiday is to book for connecting rooms in Sukhumvit hotel that is located in the heart of the city. Connecting rooms mean that you do not need to step in the hallway to get into the other room because there is a connecting door inside. This is perfect for a family because the children do not have to be afraid of sleeping in a strange place.

Thailand is a country in Southeast Asia that boasts of a highly efficient railway system. Thailand’s oil and gas group PTT is discussing with potential partners for a joint bid on the estimated $7 billion high-speed train project that will connect the three major airports. The project is part of the Eastern Economic Corridor plan that aims to promote high value manufacturing.

Such move will result into Thailand’s largest company in terms of market value to make it first investment on railway operations. PTT understands that an investment in a railway line can cut its logistics costs and offer more opportunities for expansion in the retail business.

According to Chansin Treenuchagron, new president and CEO of the state-owned conglomerate, PTT will not be bidding alone. It is looking for partners that have rail expertise with whom they can build a consortium before bidding. They are into talks with various companies that operate mass rail transits like BTS Group Holdings, majority shareholder of Bangkok’s Skytrain and Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company or Blue Line.

Operating the railway will help boost PTT’s retail revenue which is the main priority of the company. Most of PTT’s units operate on Thailand’s eastern seaboard that the government plans to upgrade with modern infrastructure. By operating a high speed rail line, PTT will lower its logistics costs.
