Williams Lake’s Winter Festival 2015

kTime to bring out the holiday excitement and join the fun in the yearly Winter Lights Festival celebrated in Williams Lake. The downtown is expected to be merrier this year because of a number of businesses which will be participating in the event. According to Angie Delainey who is a member of the Williams Lake Central Business Improvement Association, the planning committee has high expectations for this year in order to make the community feel the essence of the winter lights tradition.

Different shops located in the downtown area will be the main focus which is why it is the committee’s goal to increase the number of visitors. The plan is for people to be able to walk around during the festivities and making sure the area is safe for pedestrians. This will give visitors and locals a chance to buy and patronize local shops in the area.

For this year, the theme will be An Old Fashioned Country Cottage Christmas and there will be featured events where the whole family can participate without fee. The Winter Festival will be celebrated for three consecutive days specifically from December 4 to 6, 2015.

The festivities will begin on the 4th of December starting off with various fun events such as a scavenger hunt wearing an ugly Christmas sweater, activity center dedicated for the kids, caroling contest and other challenges involving building of gingerbread, food and drinks, workshops and more.

It is also agreed by the participating shops that they will be open for the public up to 9 in the evening on both nights – Friday and Saturday – in order to extend the fun until late. On Sunday, Delainey discloses that the shops will be available from 12 until 4 in the afternoon for another awaited event called Midday Madness.

For those who are looking forward to the parade featuring Santa Claus along with the opening of lights, these events will take place on Saturday at 6 in the evening. The parade route is different from last year and Potato House will be hosting the free picture taking with Santa starting at 2 until 4 in the afternoon of the same day.
